Signing Ceremony of the Mutual Recognition of Engineer Competency Evaluation of the Guangdong Textile Engineering Society, the Guangdong Institution of Engineers and the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel

In order to strengthen the exchange and integration of textile engineering and technical personnel in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong, promote the mutual recognition of the ability evaluation of engineers in the Greater Bay Area, and promote the flow of talents and collaborative innovation and development in the Greater Bay Area, the Guangdong Textile Engineering Society, the Guangdong Institution of Engineers and the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel, after comparative study, agreed that the requirements of professional textile engineers in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong are substantially equivalent in terms of their professional background, education, training and practice. After discussion, all parties agreed to cooperate in carrying out the mutual recognition of the competence evaluation of textile engineers in Guangdong and Hong Kong. The agreement has been reached and the online signing ceremony of the Guangdong Textile Engineering Society, the Guangdong Institution of Engineers and the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel was successfully held on 19 December 2022.

The agreement includes that professional textile engineers of the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel (including Professional Members and Fellow Members) can apply for the competence evaluation of professional textile engineers (including Engineers and Senior Engineers) in Guangdong Province through the following conditions:

  1. Household registration: Permanent resident of Hong Kong, China.
  2. Professional ability requirements:
    • Must be an engineer/ technician engaged in the field of textile engineering;
    • Must be a Professional Member or Fellow Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel at the time of application;
    • Meet the professional textile academic requirements recognized by the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel;
    • Meet the requirements of the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel on training and work experience.

Hong Kong applicants for mutual recognition of engineer ability evaluation should submit application to the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel. After being reviewed by the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel, applicants who meet the requirements for mutual recognition will be further recommended to the Guangdong Textile Engineering Society.

HKDI Gallery is honoured to present its flagship exhibition of the year: “Dai Fujiwara The Road of My Cyber Physical Hands”, renowned Japanese designer Dai FUJIWARA’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong.

This exhibition is a first-ever look into Dai Fujiwara earliest works tracing from his time as a student of design up to his most recent creations. It is an exploration into his journey that started with creating objects by hand and gradually expanded into design engineering and addressing social issues.

This is a conversation between the present and the future, capturing Fujiwara’s journey through different realms, from nature and technology to design, art, community and society; and travels through the past, present, and future, blurring the borders of each.

Hong Kong Denim Festival 2021 (HKDF2021)

Organized by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), the first Hong Kong Denim Festival (HKDF) was held from 11 to 27 Jan 2019, Emotional attachment of denim culture was the major focus, which has engaged more than 60,000 visitors from different sectors, including students, designers, manufacturers, retailers, tourists and the general public.

In HKDF2021, the theme is set as “Denim Tomorrow, which aims at building up and promoting the synergy between young design talent and the denim industry through a series of denim techno-related activities. These activities intend to nurture and enlighten creative talents with innovative strategies being applied to denim design and manufacturing that respond to global denim market challenges.
