1. Establishment :

    The Institution was established by some ardent and interest people on 10th August 1993.

  2. Visions :

    Maintain and improve the academic and professional standards of its members, so as to improve the competitiveness of the industry and to prosper the economy of Hong Kong.

  3. Missions :

    1. Strengthen the communications among the professional groups of textile and garment manufacturing, dyeing and finishing throughout the world.

    2. Organize courses, forum and seminars, and publish professional journal and newsletter so as to improve the professional standards of its members.

    3. Enhance the exchange opportunitites among the industries throughout the world.

    4. Investigate methods for improving the standard of the textile and apparel industry in Hong Kong.

  4. Membership of the Institution: It consists of 8 different membership classifications :

    4. Licentiate Member (LHKITA)

    5. Graduate Member (GHKITA)

  5. Eligibility for Memberships :

    1. Honorary Fellow Member (HFHKITA) Persons who have not less than 10 years of textile and apparel experience, and have achieved recognized accomplishment in science and technology in the textile and apparel or related field. No person shall be eligible for election to Honorary Fellow Membership unless nomination to Honorary Fellow Membership shall be given by 2 Voting Members.

    2. Fellow Member (FHKITA) Members who have not less than 10 years of textile and apparel or related working experience, and have made significant contributions to the Institution and /or industries.

    3. Member (MHKITA) Persons who have not less than 5 years of textile and apparel or related professional experience and who hold Honor degree or pass Graduate Diploma examinations of the Institution or equivalent relating to textile and apparel.

    4. Licentiate Member (LHKITA) Persons who have not less than 5 years of textile and apparel or related working experience and who hold Diploma or pass the Advanced Diploma examinations or equivalent relating to textile and apparel.

    5. Graduate Member (GHKITA) Persons who are fresh graduates and who hold Honor degree or pass Graduate Diploma examinations of the Institution or equivalent relating to textile and apparel industry.

    6. Affiliate Member Persons who are or have been attendants of courses in textile and apparel or who are working in the textile and apparel industry.

    7. Companion Member Persons who are holding responsile positions in textile and apparel industry or commercial field, and who hold any non-textile qualifications.

    8. Student Member Students who are taking degree courses or institution's courses or equivalent in textile and apparel.

  6. Rights and Responsibilities of Members :

    1. to attend all the general meetings of the Institution.

    2. to participate in all activities organized and sponsored by the Institution.

    3. to enjoy all facilities provided by the Institution.

    4. to promote the missions of the Institution.

  7. Election Right in Legislative Council in Hong Kong Special Adminstration Region (HKSAR) :

    The Institution is one of the registered professional organizations of textile and apparel in Hong Kong. In September 1997, the Provisional Legislative Council approved that the Honorary Fellow Members, Fellow Members, and Members of HKITA have voting right in the Election of the Textile and Garments constituency of the Legislative Council in Hong KOng SAR. The professional status of our members have been recognized in Hong Kong.

  9. International Association :

    The Institution is recognized by the Asian Federation of Textile Professional Association to be a professional regional representative of Hong Kong Textile and Apparel Industry. On top of organizing seminars with The Society of Dyers and Colorists and The Textile Institute, the Institution also organized the Third Asian Textile Symposium in 1995. More than 200 professional scholars attended and over 150 papers were presented. The Institution formed an agreement on membership recognition with China Textile Engineering Society (CTES) in 1996. Both parties accept application from the other party to become qualified members of their societies.

  10. Association with local industries :

    The Institution has organized seminars together with the representative of the Textile and Garments constituency of the Legislative Council, Hong Kong Industry Department, Hong Kong Productivity Council, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Vocational Training Council, Hong Kong Wearing Apparel Industry Employees General Union, and etc. At the same time, we have shared experience with the Textile Institute, The Hong Kong Soceity of Dyers and Colourists, Local Textile Professional Consulting Company and Intertek Testing Services Hong Kong Limited. The Institution also organized factory visits to some local leading textiles and apparel companies, such as Glorious Sun Enterprises Ltd., Shun Hing Textile Ltd., Peninsula Knitters Ltd., and etc. These companies are invited to announce their activities in our institutions newsletter thereby enhancing our communications with business sectors.
