Activities of HKITA 98/99

A Series of activities were held by HKITA in 1998/99 to foster coordination and improve academic standard of the members. In the academic field, we have orgainzed different seminars with variou organizations such as Vocational Training Council and Hong Kong Wearing Apparel Industry Employees General Union in the past years. Those seminars included New Development on Tencel, Perspective of Hong Kong Textile and Clothing Industries in the 21st Century in January, "Development of Color Science into the 21st Century" in May and "How does Hong Kong become a world-class fashioj and design centre" in December. The Institution had successfully invited Mr. Y.Z. Du, Director of Textile Bureau of China, to be one of our keynote speakers of the above seminars. On the other hand, Beijing Textile Conference which was jointly organized by the China Textile Engineering Society and HKITA was held in April in beijing. This Conference provided a good opportunity for members of the industry between Hong Kong and the Mainland to communicate. HKITA Newsletters was also renamed as "Research Journal of Textile and Apparel" with different journals published for reference of our members. On 17th December 1998, HKITA executive committee had dinner with Mr. Du for his support to HKITA. It also provided us to have a review on our results and gather our members in the spring dinner in February.

Hong Kong SAR Government approved our voting rights to participate of the Election in the Textile and Garments constituency in the Legislative Council. This reflects the professional status of our Institution have been recognized in Hong Kong. The results of the Institution Examination were satisfactory, with a passing rate of over 80 %. In the past years, we sincerely invited more and more members of the industry to be involved as a member of the Institution in order to maintain the recognition of the industry.
