1.COURSE OBJECTIVES

The module provides students with comprehensive study of apparel construction and assembly techniques, which includes concepts of style analysis and fit relationships. Creativity and industrial methods are stressed in each of the major design assignments. Projects are completed using a variety of fabrics, special machines and include co-ordination of fabric, texture and colour for a specific season and market. Upon successfully completing the module, students should be able to:
(a) Understand flat pattern design analysis process
(b) Manipulate and understand bodice, skirt and dress pattern drafting
(c) Understand the interrelationship of garment design, fabric, fit and assembly
(d) Evaluate and interpret visual designs to paper patterns, muslin, and fashion fabric
(e) Create and original dress design, from pattern to construction
